[opensuse] Compiz will no longer auto-start with kde
Hi all. I have 2 machines running 10.3/kde 3.5.7/compiz 0.7.6. The desktop machine runs an Nvidia card with the binary drivers; the laptop has on board Intel 855GM video with the appropriate drivers. Compiz works fine on both machines, but won't auto-start on either. When I first installed compiz, if compiz-manager was running when kde was shut down then it would be automatically restarted when kde started up. Some time in the last few months this has stopped working (unfortunately I don't know exactly which update broke it). Other apps do auto-restart when kde is restarted - compiz appears to be the only one that doesn't. I've tried running it from the compiz-fusion-icon as well as via a shell using 'compiz-manager --replace &' but it still makes no difference. Also (and I'm not sure if this is related), I have emerald set as the window decorator but it doesn't load when compiz starts up. I have to manually select the kde window decorator, then re-select emerald and all is fine. This is frustrating mainly because it used to "just work". Has anyone else come across this? Any hints on where to start looking will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks, but despite following those instructions (again) the problem persists. I have confirmed that under Configure Desktop -> KDE Components -> Session Manager the preferred window manager is set to compiz, not kwin. I also have Restore Previous Session checked. It still won't auto start compiz :-(. Cheers, Rodney. -- =================================================== Rodney Baker VK5ZTV rodney.baker@iinet.net.au =================================================== Oh Dad! We're ALL Devo!

Hmm, which KDE and openSUSE version? -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The first line of my original post was: "I have 2 machines running 10.3/kde 3.5.7/compiz 0.7.6..." Add this in ~/.kde3/Autostart/compiz-start #!/bin/bash sleep 5 compiz-manager& chmod +x ~/.kde3/Autostart/compiz-start (All of above as normal user) -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That seems OK as a workaround. I can't figure out why it is necessary now when it previously used to work, but it does the job. I guess I'll leave it at that.
