so far so good, one point for open source :-))
Very good!
I like virtual box, as i use it for the 11.0 alpha testing. I only use vmware because my xp image is several years old and I don't feel like recreating it.
You can use VMware images in VirtualBox with little in the way of tweaks. I copied my W2000 image to VirtualBox and only needed to remove the VMware tools package first, run the installer to take care of the change in the "virtual hardware" and then install the VirtualBox tools package.
I should add that the installer I refer to is the windows installer for the version of windows you are using.
How are you making Windows images to be put in Virtualbox ?
It is a VMware disk image.
From where can it be downloaded ?

I created my own when I was using VMware workstation. I was mearly pointing out to Kai Ponte that he might be able to convert his VMware XP disk image to a VirtualBox disk image. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Patrick I've created a set of VMWare images on a central machine and moved them around as required for development. You'll be asked whether you want to regenerate a GUID (I think that's it) on the machine's new home, just go ahead and do it. There may be problems moving from an AMD to an Intel CPU or vice versa, but since I use mainly AMD chips I haven't come across problems. The only place I had to try over was running the windows installer on the new image. I at first treated the boot up as wanting to install new but then later on in the process I was asked if I wanted to repair the installed system which is what I did. The only other thing that I needed to do was make sure I removed the VMware tools package first. This didn't all happen on the first try and took 5-6 tries before it worked the way I wanted it to. In the whole process I made sure I had a good copy of the original VMware disk image to go back to in case of problems. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
