: Check out xrandr. I use it to select the resolution of the monitor I'm currentlh "looking" at. Of course it only allows you to choose between resolutions actually configured in you server's config (which was likely done via SAX). Your monitor could be blank because your video output is out of range. Selecting an "in range" resolution might help. I find linux very weak in the area of external monitor(s). There are lots of times I look stupid because I can't make my linux laptop work with some old projector and I have to resort to using someone's old windows box. sigh.. wcn

there is probably a key on your keyboard to switch between the two screens, but this one don't works always.
you can also try sax2 (or yast, display), there are option to configure two displays at the same time

The 18th crossing, actually. And the last If you want to make a point about not deserving the ban, could you at least try to stay on topic? Ops sorry for top posting. But i really need help on the connecting to monitor for presentation. I have use the xrandr and change the conf file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf Anything i can do? My display card is ATI radeon xpress 1150. My laptop is Dell 1501 (AMD mobile sempron) using the suse 10.3. I using kde desktop I also find that when i go into the monitor setting it informs me that i do not have 3d support for the display. Does this affects why i connect to vga for presentation? Thanks -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It could be. Though you should try change /etc/X11/xorg.config first. From your previous post:
Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout[all]" InputDevice "Keyboard[0]" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Mouse[3]" "SendCoreEvents" Option "Clone" "off" Option "Xinerama" "off" Screen "Screen[0]" EndSection
This will not work as you want. You have to change above: Option "Clone" "on" That will give you 2 screens with the same content for presentation. If that doesn't work try ATI drivers instead of opensource radeon. See http://en.opensuse.org/ATI and http://en.opensuse.org/ATI_Radeon_Xpress for instructions. There is no garantee that it works for eevry laptop, but you can try it. -- Regards, Rajko. go in yast, configure screen. This should lead you to a module "card and monitor configure". There, at the bottom, I have "activate duplex mode" this is probably not what you want (it allows the screen to extend on the two monitors), but it's aready better than nothing. on my acer whith nvidia, I can have the LCD or the projector but not the two together as I would like :-( jdd NB: there are a bunch of card options, and one is "connected monitors", may be this is relevant?? -- http://www.dodin.net http://clairedodin.voices.com/ http://www.clairedodin.com/ http://claire.dodin.net/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm sorry.. I missed the point at which you criticized Peter for straying off topic. Could you direct me to your post where you did that? Or are you just serving as a further example of how it has been decided that there's one set of rules for the general list membership, and has existed for quite some time yet another set of rules for Aaron.
Like Stefan said, you clearly know a lot, you bring something to the list. So stop getting yourself thrown off it
As this would be the Nth time for rapidly increasing values of N, do you really think that's going to do anything, other than invoke further ire, and even more counter-productive meta-discussions. All I'm asking is that I be treated the same way everyone else on this list is treated. Or maybe you can show me where the list rules indicate that humorous comments are reason for being banned -- but only if said comment is posted by Aaron Kulkis.
