Didn't read all, but... do you have a session called gnome in the login manager. If not do -> login as root (session kde). Start kcontrol -> system -> login manager -> session Now add a session gnome, and that's it. Op woensdag 12 februari 2003 20:56, schreef Allen Kenner:

Are you running Lilo or Grub? If you did an upgrade as opposed to a fresh install, it will keep Lilo, where a fresh install auto chooses Grub, unless told otherwise. I am not sure, but if it is Lilo, you may have to run the lilo command to load it all. Please verify this, as I am rather a bit of a newbie, and I have enough people mad at me as is! I am using GRUB, i did a fresh install ( iv had a lot on this computer before) and all i use is GRUB, i kinda like it and the fact that SuSe uses it by default works out for me hehe. On Wednesday 12 February 2003 15:23, Harry G wrote:

You would need to restart kdm, but I think it would work better in your situation to Ctrl-Alt-F1 to the console at tty1, login as root, enter init 3 (which will shutdown the graphical part of the system, X, kdm, etc). After it is done, enter init 5, to restart only the graphical parts. Then, logout as root, hiy Alt-F7 back to X, and choose your desktop choice. Assuming you're using the default login manager, you need to run KDE's control centre, go to system->login, enter "gnome" as a new session type. After "OK"ing that, it should appear in the dropdown.
Thank You again for helping, i just did as you said and also i added the other Window Managers that i had installed as options, so im gunna log out and restart the x server and see if it works, unless there already there then ill select one and see how it goes:) again Thank you all for your help, i appreciate it.
