Hi, I wonder if any of you have this issue? My setup at home is that I run two computers off a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch ... one is a work portable and one is my desktop. I use removable drives on my system which allows me to dual boot (I know you can do it other ways but that is the way I do it ... it works for me) to as many configs as I have caddy's for (with thye internal drives that is effectively 5) and keep them utterly separate. If I boot to Linux 8.1 (on KVM channel #1) I can use the mouse but I can't use the keyboard (MS Natural) and to reenable the keyboard I have to switch to my portable (KVM#2, 3 or 4) but I have to do it physically beause the keyboard doesn't work but once there I can use standard keyboard shortcuts [Ctrl], [Alt] & [1, 2, 3 or 4] to switch channels so C/A/1 brings me back to Linux and then the keyboard works. I have a simple workaround which is power Linux up, immediately switch KVM#2 and wait for the boot then switch back and all is OK. It appears to be a X or KDE related thing since if I subsequently press [Ctrl], [Alt] & [backspace] (restarting X) I lose all keyboard function again (again the workaround, though I have to be quick, is to restart X and immediately switch over to KVM#2 then back after a few seconds) It's very strange ... any ideas? I also use a KVM switch with my SuSE 8.1 system, but I've never seen this problem! In case it matters, my switch is a MyHopper2. My keyboard always works but the mouse never works...(Ps2/2) I have given up on this problem.. vishal -
I had the mouse + no keyboard problem too with my adderview keyboard/monitor switch. I found that if I restart the x-server I can use the keyboard ... so after every reboot, I have to restart the x-server before logging in, and then the keyboard will work. do you have the kvm switch on the linux box when you power on? I've noticed under serveral different OS's that when you start a machine up, but have the kvm focus on #2 (for example) that when you switch back, I have no keyboard or mouse. I've seen this under win2k and linux (under 2000 you have to reboot the damn machine). Do the ports have any kind of internal power or something that the pc doesn't recognise unless it's connected first go? when you reload X does it not query these ports for an active device?
