Well, you would not have to tell the kernel version, but the release version. $ cat /etc/SuSE-release -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk [Favorite flag: Cloaking] "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. For that version it's part of the distribution: series xdev1, openmotif.rpm: Open Motif runtime environment, includes the Motif shared libraries. series xdev2, openmotif-devel.rpm: This is the Open Motif development environment. It includes the Motif header files and static libraries, plus the Motif UIL (User Interface Language) compiler and the man pages for the Motif widgets and library functions. Thank you. Subsequent to my last post, I did find it; but, why is it so difficult to answer such questions? Given a need for a package, what is the canonical suse way to find that package? Sloughing through the ftp site, not knowing in which directory to look and without a search mechanism, this is very tedious work. There must exist away to answer my original question via some sort of rpm query -- right? What do you think? -- Best Regards, mds mds resource 888.250.3987 Dare to fix things before they break . . . You have two files. they are in the root of either the DVD, CD1 or the ftp directory. INDEX.gz contains a list of all packages in the distribution together with their location; search that if you know the name of the package you're looking for. ARCHIVES.gz contains all packages as well, but together with the constituent files and descriptions; search that if you know the name of a file you're looking for, but don't know the package, or if you don't know either but have a term that may be in the package description.

AFAIK you can only use rpm querys for packages you already have installed. //Anders

Mount CD1/DVD (lets assume /cdrom as mountpoint) and do a 'zgrep <name> /cdrom/ARCHIVE.gz'. Philipp -- Philipp Thomas work: pthomas@suse.de Development SuSE Linux AG private: pth@t-link.de
