**Has anyone tried to use the Iomega hard drives or Peerless drives or the
**Lacie hard drives with SuSE Linux, using either USB or Firewire (IEEE
**1394), and if Firewire, with what card?
Can't say I have actually anything more than the firewire card installed I've
not yet managed to gather all the green stuff needed to ransom a digital video
cam ( one w/ a really good quality of output ... and a healthy range of
features) I keep looking to see if my desired one(s) is going down in price (
nope) or perhaps , havning been replaced several times by a newer version of
itself, will have the prices lowered <sigh> .. I did notice, I beleive in hte
8.1 Administrators book , that Suse wants to know how many of it's people
either use or plan to use firewire , and what you might be thinking of using
... There was a request for information , which I don't have handy but it
suposed to be on the suse.de website.. I'm certain one of more of our German
Suse folks , or even the USA ones would have more info about that if you can't
fine it.
IIRC it's ( nay drive you connect) suposed to show up as a generic hard disk...
sorta like scsi added drives. And given the new setup that 8.1 seems to have
the USB drive might be okay .... it *should* just show up ....
I'm just so chuffed that the usb reader actually shows up on my desktop w/ me
having done nothing more than plug it in before the install... That was THE
last reason for a windows partition around here.. it' goes tomorrow ! <VBG>
between Crossover office and now Suse having made an automagic setup for the
usb card reader ... Whelp , we are to be a comletely MS free zone !!
