I'm one step away from having a almost perfect stabel kernel. I'm noticing however when I boot with my standard 2.4.18 or ..20 kernel I get a message referencing TIOCGDEV not recognised or something to that effect. I imagine this is some service making a call for a kernel module that I forgot to compile. Anyone know what this is.

I get that too with my home-rolled kernel. I think SuSE has some patch in it's kernel which is used by one of the boot scripts. I just ignore it. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

Yes, it needs a patch. I will send you two the patch in private. Charles -- "Linux, because up-time matters gawk; talk; date; wine; grep; touch; unzip; touch; gasp; finger; gasp; mount;\ fsck; more; yes; gasp; umount; make clean; make mrproper; sleep." --Drunken Bastard
I believe that I have sent the patch out to everyone who have requested it privately. If I missed out on anyone, please email me again. Hello, I beg you pardon, may be I missed a part of this discussion. What kind of path are you talking about? What is this mysterious TIOCGDEV message anyway? I'm getting it on every bootup and don't know how to turn it off. Could you please provide more details on this matter. Thanks. Alex -------------------

TIOCGDEV kernel patch.

TIOCGDEV is a kernel patch that was originally part of Joerg Prante's kernel patchset. It is used in SuSE kernels to enable SuSE style boot logging. So if you use a vanilla kernel, you will need this to enable it.
