[opensuse] Grub HOSED, 2nd time
Apparently there could be an issue with the kernel update last week - when I booted my AMD64 11.1 machine this AM, grub was gone AGAIN! After trying the automatic repair, I find that menu.lst now contains:
# Modified by YaST2. Last modification on Mon Mar 2 10:23:07 CST 2009 timeout 8 default 0 gfxmenu (hd0,0)/message ##YaST - activate
How do I get the proper entries back? Is this a bug and/or how can I prevent grub from getting corrupted in
The automatic repair HAS the proper entries in the GUI list, but they don't get placed IN menu.lst in /boot/grub! the fiuture?? Thanks! Lee -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi, please file bug report and assign to me. Do you update perl-Bootloader before updating kernel? If not and update via YaST, then I already fix it via online-update (it is race condition of some unexped options). get back old entry is hard, as backup is rewrited (fixed for 11.2). So I suggest use gui list and write it (after OK, this should be writed). Also please don't forget attach yast logs - http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs/YaST#I_reported_a_YaST2_bug.2C_and_now_I_am_aske... Hi Josef, Will do - but I must get the machine running before I can get the logs off.

Unfortunately, the Repair Option won't even do the 'Install Boot Loader'. It keeps mounting all the partitions on / (boot = /dev/sda1, swap = /dev/sda5, root = /dev/sda6) and then saying it needs to repair the partitions when I try to run any Repair options, but that they are busy!! Of course they are busy - they are mounted on /!

At this time, I have just been trying to get the old system running so I can use Yast to rebuild Grub, but running Grub on the command line keeps choking on the root partition, /dev/sda6. Using: grub> initrd (hd0,0)/initrd grub> kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda6 Tried root=(hd0,5) AND root=/dev/sda6, but the system starts booting and then waits for a USB /dev/sda6! All the partitions are there and correct, as I can boot a System Rescue CD, fsck them, mount them, . . . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
