ATI Radeon Question - Driver on SuSE 9.0
When I look in my SuSEPlugger App it says my video card is an "Unknown Device" Named ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 M9. I went to ATI's Site and downloaded "fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.8.i586.rpm" ITs the Linux Driver for XFree86 4.3.0 Version. I install the RPM Via Yast, then when I see its done I run the "fglrxconfig" program and answer all the questions. The install notes say it will create a "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4" file, which it does. If I reboot theres no change. Should I Rename XF86Config-4 to XF86Config? IM running SuSE 9.0 on a Dell Instiron 8200 Im mainly looking to get my graffix up to snuff. (I test to see if its ok by running a GL Screen saver) Thanks for you help & Advise --Charles :)

cd /etc/X11 cp XF86Config XF86Config-orig (or tagged with whatever, bkup, old, etc) cp XF86Conifig-4 XF86Config Or, you could compare the two and just change whats in the module section for Load "glx" Load "dri" (I believe the ati cards need dri) And the "Device" section to make sure the driver and other options are written correctly. Eitherway, before overwriting the original XF86Config... Back it up. That way you'll have a function x config file so you cp the "orig" file over the default and get it back up and running. If you have problems again repost with your XF86Config file, and perhaps anything else in the ".X.err" and ".xsession-errors" files in the home dir as well. Don't try to send the XF86Config file as an attachment. just paste the whole thing into the message (and trim out the older content that carried over from previous post to the list threads - save space/size). Don't worry about the fact that the whole file is long - were used to it on the list. Curtis :) - -- Spammers Beware: Tresspassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again! It looks like the ATI program added a bunch of stuff.. But the ATI App doesnt see it..
Does this look right?
One thing just occurred to me. You said that the config program for the ATI
card saved the config file as XF86Config-4? And that you cp this file to
"XF86Config" (as I had suggested) but the "ATI app" doesn't see it!
Well I bet the ATI app is looking at the XF86Config-4 and not the XF86Config
file (as would make sense because it originally save it as a *-4 file.
See if the "ATI app" has a config file, and if so take a look at it and see if
it refers to the XF86Config file (let's hope it's not in binary/source form
and unreadable).
I'm looking at you config file you posted. I don't have a lot of ATI
experience (but have done my share of config troubleshooting with nvidia).
Also is there a log file /var/log file for XFree86 (there should be a few) and
run these commands and post.
cat /proc/driver/

We'll get this nailed, I need the experience because I'm getting a 9600 XT most likely and want to learn.
