[opensuse] Firefox or Opensuse issue? Scrolling causes sudden URL changes
Browser: Firefox 3.3.6 O/S: Opensuse 11.3 Desktop: LXDE Computer: Laptop HP DV9250 After upgrading to 11.3, I've noticed something strange happening when browsing websites with Firefox. I'm not saying it's related to 11.3, I'm just saying I just noticed it after upgrading. As I'm scrolling on a page using the laptop's touchpad, I'll unexpectedly be transferred to another website. A couple times it was www.eth0.com, another time it was www.c.com. It will sometimes pop-up an alert box with "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded". This happens when I'm browsing different websites, so I cannot say it is occurring on one particular site, or on sites with or without media or with flash, etc. I can say it happens regularly when I hold the left button down for a length of time and touch the pad to scroll. It does not happen if I tap the left button and use the scroll bars on the browser. If I was on Windows, I would say this acted like a virus/trojan or some other outside source or hack. But after reading what I have on Linux, this is very rare. Any ideas? Thank you! i get the same thing with my desktop and mouse if i am using the scroll wheel and i accidentally push too hard on it -- that causes a middle-mouse button event which you can configure in firefox i strongly suspect you are having middle mouse button events triggered by your touchpad sc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a middle mouse button. And where would these random links be generated from? An event trigger? I'll look at Firefox's configuration anyway. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes you do. The mouse wheel is a button as well as a wheel. The default action for pushing it is "paste" Andesr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

as i understood the original post, he has a laptop with a touchpad -- in my experience those do not have a mouse-wheel, but can simulate mouse-wheel events with various key combinations and magic motions on the touchpad -- those are configurable, how they're triggered, what events they spawn, both in firefox and system settings -- he *may* have a proprietary touchpad settings module as well i think we've got him looking in the right place(s) though sc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

To clarify my previous email: the touchpad emulates a mouse wheel as well as a middle button, and as I said, the default action for the middle button/mouse wheel is "paste". When you paste something into firefox it will try to load it as a URL. So in the examples you gave, you had in your copy buffer the text "eth". You (accidentally) pasted it into firefox, and it tried to load it - and firefox tries to help you by adding www. and .com to something that doesn't work as a direct address. That is why it tried to open www.eth.com Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
