YaST2 stealing my stuff!!
Hi. I have just used YaST2 to do (for the first time) an automatic online update of SuSE 8.0. Afterwards (and following a reboot), I found that the KPPP app which I normally use for connecting to the Internet wouldn't connect any more, because the YaST2 online updating process had resulted in the total deletion of one of the necessary files (/etc/ppp/peers/kppp). I don't think I'll have much difficulty in re-creating the missing file -- but meanwhile I'm just a bit worried about what ELSE YaST2 may have stolen! Anyone had any similar experiences? Yes! Only I didn't know *what* was wrong. If you get kppp working again, *please*...tell us how you did it, so I can get mine back too. Thanks!! John B

I thought it would just be a matter of re-creating the /etc/ppp/peers/kppp file. Seems I was wrong. Having struggled with the thing for half the night to no avail, I have now switched to using Kinternet. Suggest you do the same. Sorry, this has been answered many times, and it is in the Unofficial FAQ. (I don't have the URL handy at the moment. The answer is to create the file /etc/ppp/peers/kppp, with the following as the contents: plugin passwordfd.so That should get you going. ;-) -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. That's why I didn't have the URL handy, I installed it in the SuSE helpcenter. ;-) It works very well - keep up the great job Togan! -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. ACK!! I'm sorry, but someone had posted a fix in the news group for this. Just create a text file in /etc/ppp/peers called 'kppp' (w/out the qoutes of course), and put in it this-> plugin passwordfd.so this should get it working again...it did for me. I'm sorry I didn't tell you *and* the person who put up the workaround that it fixed it. I just got tired last night and forgot. John
