I'm using SuSE 8.0 I get really annoyed with the Xaw3d scroll bar in Emacs. It looks nice, but it doesn't offer the functionality of the older scroll bar. Seems the type of scroll bar is compiled in. So I started to recompile Emacs for SuSE. I installed the sources from the SuSE disks, and then: kleigh:/usr/src/packages/SOURCES # pkgmake extract emacs-21.1 Decompress and extract emacs-21.1, No Makefile.Linux ... skipping, set up rcs, patch sources. 1 out of 6 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file configure.in.rej 1 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file lib-src/Makefile.in.rej Patch failed on . So that doesn't work. Neither does compiling the source: kleigh:/usr/src/packages/SOURCES # pkgmake compile emacs-21.1 ########################################################################### pkgmake compile in subdir emacs-21.1. make: Makefile.Linux: No such file or directory make: *** No rule to make target `Makefile.Linux'. Stop. pkgmake compile failed on emacs-21.1. Anyone an idea how to get this working? I could just install from the original source, but than I would miss any patches needed to make Emacs work optimally with SuSE. -- Peter Kleiweg http://www.let.rug.nl/~kleiweg/

Try using "rpm -bp /usr/src/packages/SPECS/emacs.spec"- That will use any package specific patches and patch commands that the maintainer specified. pkgmake assumes that every patch is named packagename.dif. I don't think it's meant to be used with recent versions of SuSE. Anders
