Where is the alsa source in 8.1 (Repost)
Hi; I've just installed the kernel.org default 2.4.19 kernel. To get sound I need to rebuild alsa. In 8.0 the source was found in /libs/modules, but I cannot find it in 8.1. I've checked that alsa-devel is installed (I've even reinstalled it just to make sure). Any suggestions? Thanks. I'm reposting this as I need sound on my system. In 8.0 the source was in a package called km_alsa, which when installed placed the source files in /usr/src/kernel-modules/alsa-driver/
but I cannot find it in 8.1.
In 8.1 the alsa drivers aren't in a separate package anymore. The driver sources have been 'integrated' into the kernel source package. I suspect you'll have to grab them from the official alsa web site.

Isn't there an OSS driver for your card? In the 2.4 series, OSS is included in the kernel.org distribution. Anders

However the km_alsa was very usefull in 8.0 just because alsa-sound modules were very bad compiled (against some amd6.sim machine ... the name say it) ... giving eratic messages in xconsole and recompiling against your very own config was the exit in this issue.
