1. Are you using gimp-print? and if so, which version? 2. Which version of ghostscript are you using?
gs 6.51
There were some bugs in the interaction between some of the gimp-print 4.1.xx series and ghostscript that caused sporadic errors. These have been fixed in gimp-print 4.2.0. I don't know which versions are standard in SuSE 7.2.
I've fsck'd yast2 somehow (I think it saved me time and did itself in through an online update) so I dont know. Looking @ the 7.2 dvd I find no (specific) reference to gimp-print. I've tried compiling 4.2, it seems to ./configure, make just fine then fails @ make install (I don't remember the error right now, I'm pretty sure it couldn't find a library that exists exactly where it was looking! ) I did print from gimp just fine last night (font antialiasing is currently turned off in kde 2.2.2) my setup linux 2.4.17, xfree86 4.2, kde2.2.2, ghostscript 6.51, gnome-print 0.32-15 (from suse), gimp-print not installed?
gimp-print is only designed to work with gpl versions of ghostscript and so doesn't work fully with ghostscript 7.x, but is fine with ghostscript 6.51 and earlier. JDL
So I take it that you are able to print from advanced editor/kmail without problems. thanks

I was able to print the cups printer test pages from YaST2 and KControlCenter but if I tried printing from kwrite or kmail a new process would start that used all available cpu time.
the process was
(all on one line in kpm) gs -dBATCH -dSAFER -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE --r300x300 -sDEVICE-cdj550 -dBitsPerPixel=3 -sOutputFile=|cat >&3 -

I think there may be a buggy interaction between ghostscript and the anti-alias fonts setting in KDE. If I set Anti-Aliasing to "on" in KDE then I can't print from kwrite or kmail ( I get the cpu hog gs process).
If I turn Anti-Aliasing "off" and restart the x server then printing works as expected.
Can someone verify this behavior or disprove it on their machine?
