Hello: Can anyone please try to help me with this problem? What it could be about?? Any comment please? Perhaps is there a better place to ask? I really don't know what's happening and I've been dealing with for 2 weeks without any luck still :-(. I hope someone can help me with this strange & annoying problem. Thanks for your time, Edulix. Greetings,
Then I noticed that suse 9.1 is very much slower than any other distro I have ever installed. If I start to write a cd in k3b my sound hacks and open office behaves as if there are no resources available. I was checking my swap space and then I relised there is no activity on swap!? Using the Kde System Guard, it reports 0kb used and 0kb free, I tried to run swapon but it swears at me so I assume it is already running but then free space should be 1 gig. But then on the other hand the system does have 760 MB ram. I do hope it is broken as It would make my PC faster if it were working. And the I have something to fix :=}. Thanks for reading

Hello Chadley:
I alsohave the problem "suse 9.1 is very much slower than any other distro I have ever installed". My sound also hacks, and even sometimes my mouse doesn't mouve smooth, and programs reponses get slow. That happened also wrtting a cd (when starting and finishing mostly), or executting a kde app when using gnome, or when launching some yast sub-app (sax2 for example, which is in Hardware > Graphic card & Monitor), launching YOU, etc...
One strange thing is for example that when I execute updatedb (and sound hacks etc), I can see top reporting low cpu usage (around 15%) but in Kde System Guard and Gnome System Monitor it goes to 100%! And that missmatch also happens while exectuing the other mentioned tasks.
I have 256 Mb of Ram and a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU; not as much ram as you, but certenly enough for those things being happening (and as you said, those things did never happen to me in Fedora, Mandrake or Gentoo). Note that the most strage thing to me was is when the mouse mouvement is not smooth because that did never happen to me in this pc with any other distro. It also is not smooth when logging out kde.
Are things I related happenning to you? Have you got also a Athlon XP? Which are the differences between your problem and mine ?
Thanks for your time, Edulix.
