Is this what you're looking for?
Open the application. Right click its icon on the Task Bar Select the option "Show A Launcher When Not Running"
Using 13.2 + KDE 4.14.9 here, so I don't if it's the same in Leap 42.1
well, it works. Thanks, I never noticed this option :-)

Glad it works. I agree, it's a bit obscure, and I don't remember when the method for adding launchers to the task bar changed.
In the same release as you, I can simply navigate to dolphin in the Gecko menu, right click and add to panel.
It adds it with a larger Icon, in a different part of the panel (toward the right side).
The method you indicate seems to use small icons. Very strange.
Your way works with the 'new' Application Launcher Menu. The option to add to panel is missing for those of us who use the 'Classic' menu style. I suppose we could move from one to the other to utilise this function. -- Bob Williams System: Linux 3.16.7-29-desktop Distro: openSUSE 13.2 (x86_64) with KDE Development Platform: 4.14.9 Uptime: 09:27am up 0:02, 4 users, load average: 3.69, 1.47, 0.55
