I am top-posting because there are some things summarized below that are relevant. List admins: please realize that once in a while major events happen that get discussed in a broader sense. Take for instance the events of September 11 in the US. This event transcended racial, gender, societal, technical and all sorts of other lines and issues. Within the Open Source, F/OSS, Linux, etc. movements, the Novell and Microsoft deal has taken on a much larger role. Mark Shuttleworth has put in a rare appearance and weighed in on the situation, as have many others, Bruce Perens in many articles, top Novell officials, Suse developers, etc. People are quitting in disgust. Others are becoming even more die-hard than they have ever been. The upshot is that there is some non-normal talk going on, and it's a rare issue. Please take time to realize that this subject matter DEFINITELY transcends the general talk that populates this and several other lists. The old saying, "Any publicity is better than no publicity" still holds. Let Suse get some notoriety. Realize that some HAVE migrated elsewhere, and Linux as a whole has benefited. Realize that others have come here as a result. But please, allow polite discussion, even if heated. My 2¢, adjusted for inflation. RP Primm wrote:

Hi,
Its just hard to have to sift through all the complaints, and get to the people who really are just asking for help on the "opensuse" list, which is what it was designed for.
Would it be possible to have a list just for people who use SuSE at work or for other useful stuff? People who actually do something with it? Like solve problems about installation or how to get a network running? Like the Spanish speaking list? I actually _use_ 10.1 to make a living and so have little time to wade through the list politician posts. I've absolutely zero interest in operating systems nor trying out different versions.
Does everyone still live with their Mother?
Cheers, Steve.
