Why not just try it? If your USB connected harddrive is bootable, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to install SUSE on it and boot from it. Does your USB harddrive "manifest" itself as a SCSI-drive when in Linux? I've more or less switched to booting from a USB stick when I'm installing or using the rescue system - the stick typically becomes /dev/sda, and is listed as an installation option. Here's what I would do - boot from SUSE CD1 (or USB stick), go through the motions up till you get to chose what software you want, keyboard layout etc. At this point, the partitioner will show whether you can pick your USB harddrive to install on. /Per Jessen, Zürich
