: How does SuSE expect to make it in the general user marketplace if they : cannot even talk to and through common PCI modems? (Given that ISA : slots are becoming rare on newer mobos.) You are probably using a WinModem...this is not a /real/ modem. : Sure seems that someone needs to address this before Micro$oft uses : it in another of their attacks on the veracity of Linux in general and : SuSE in specific. Heh, what's microshaft going to say? Hey, Linux can't use our proprietary modem architect which uses more CPU, more memory, does the de/modulation via software rather then using the hardware, and it is has a slower download rate due to all of the above, therefore Linux sucks?? heh, don't think so, they'd shoot themselves in the foot on that one :) : Meanwhile this means yet another trip to buy something else to replace : a common piece of hardware that M$ readily utilizes and Linux/SuSE : cannot. (Forced to buy a modem for 3x what a M$-compatible one : costs is not cool. This is beginning to co$t like dealing with Apple all : over again.) yeah, but you save a bundle in software purchases using Linux (which MORE then makes up for it), and anyone that does their homework before buying something would know that winmodems are not worth spit.
