Why is it "senseless" to install a software which is no longer officially supported? Depending on security issues it may be advisable to not connect to the internet or to take additional precautions with that specific software, but if one has a computer with software that is functional there is no reason to stop using it. If the software version is copyable and therefore capable of being backed up, it will be capable of running on compatible hardware for en unlimited period of time. That is the whole point of Open Source and Free software: We, not the proprietary software industry with its subscription schemes and infamous cloud computing, decide and control our own computers. There is no reason to not install and use a program or an operating system if it is compatible with the hardware one has.
