I remember solving this by removing some database file which gets rebuilt but my notes are failing to turn up what I did to fix this in a previous version of SUSE OS.

I had a problem once with the printer database that was fixed by a proceedure.

This has been fairly common. See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=229231. Short answer: try these

rm /var/lib/YaST2/printers rm /var/lib/YaST2/ppd_db.ycp

However, this time I can't bring up the graphics card monitor configuration via YaST as it just aborts during the process. Anyone have a clue how I can fix this?

It looks like I have fixed this. I went to init 3 and ran YaST in text mode. I saw a few errors fly by but in the end the proper screens came up.
