I could not agree more. For all you get, that price is a bargain. And if people want to see Linux continue to grow, the least they can do is buy the retail version. Like you, I just bought 7.1 from Chumbo, and I am greatly looking forward to getting it running.
Bryan, I fully agree with this. I can honestly say 7.1 has been a bumpy ride for me. Lots of things have not gone quite as I would have liked. Then again, this is the first distribution I have every actually tried to take a systematic approach with. The combination of my having a better idea of what I want my systems to do, having more working components which I depend on regularly, and SuSE 7.1 having been significantly rearranged has led to a lot more frustrations than I have had with previous distributions. I have also been much harder on SuSE this time around. If we are going to take on the ring wraiths if Redmond we can't let up on the demand for perfection. I'm willing to put in a lot of my own time and effort do make Linux better, and SuSE Linux in particular. I do wish there were a more systematic approach to learing how to work with the nuts and bolts of the product. I buy this distribution, and I think people who have the bucks should do the same. If we stop and think about how much we pay for the hardware, the price of the SuSE distribution is miniscule. If people think it's over priced, they should go out to kernel.org, fetch the source, compile it, and start adding things until they have a working system. Then they can b!tch with impunity. But I do wish my XEmacs would compile {:-/> @#$%^$!!! Steve
