No, you can not format it as reiserfs, so you would have to leave it "not formatted". For that to work, you would have to instead erase the entire partition. Also, you probably would need to create a separate /boot partition as ext2, because it can not be ensured that grub can still boot a reiserfs partition directly. You would have to verify all that.
