Your error suggests no media (a CD) and or no ide-scsi device (I assume it is a IDE CD-RW). If it is a SCSI device - "Never Mind!"
Do you have a disk in the CD-RW? If Yes then:
As ROOT - Try from a console (or xterm) "which cdrecord" - which will confirm that cdrecor is there. Then try that information example "/usr/bin/cdrecord -scanbus". If it goes well you will see your CD-RW listed. If not then it is not either a loaded module (ide-scsi.o and sg.o) or built into the kernel.
