->My licensed copy of OSS for the 2.4 kernel didn't survive my ->''upgrade" to 7.3. It tried to recompile itself and when that didn't ->work it automatically went out to the 4front website and to download ->a version of OSS for the 2.4.10-4GB kernel. There were none ->available, yet. I had other problems with the 'upgrade' route. ->While root seemed to survive the process quite well, my user account ->did not end up with a working KDE desktop. Nothing else seemed to ->work, neither. If one is running a stock KDE from 7.2 then it's not going to work because KDE in 7.2 was 2.0.1 and there were like 4 revisions that came out between 2.0.1 and 2.2.1 if you remove the following files then it should work... ~/.DCOP* .MCOP* .mcop* /tmp/<all kde related files and directories> mv .kde2 to kde2 and let it be recreated..then move over things such as kmail address books and bookmark files. There are somethings that 2.2.1 does like about 2.2.1 files..and it's a KDE2 thing..can't be help :) This is why I try to use ftp.suse.com as much as possible to keep up to date. YOU won't update to 2.2.1 because it's not in the 7.2 directory .. it's in the supplementry directory. I actually see no need for OSS unless you have a REALLY off the wall card. Alsa supports SO many cards now that OSS isn't actually needed in most cases. -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal" -AE
