Lotus Notes ( Bloating Goats ) is NO match for M$-Exchange.
Having said that, no, I'm not an M$-advocate. Lotus just can't match up to anything. They did get the concept right, but they mess up just about everything else. E-mail breaks down unless _everyone_ you know uses notes, groupware in notes relies on such a behemoth of a database that unless your'e using NT/Win2k you'd be using a couple of times bigger iron running the LN db than you'd be using for your favourite closed-source database ( be it Oracle, Sybase, Informix, or any other.. ). This big iron does not make it run faster ( first it'd have to run fast, and that I have never seen - ever ! Crawl... maybe...)
Unfortunately, Tor is right. Anyone who monitors a Lotus Notes shop for any length of time knows it's the groupware suite from hell.....prone to server crashes and slowdowns, and just generally sludgy. One hopes and prays for an open source alternative, but, as Tor alludes to, the conception, design, coding and debugging of good groupware is a major undertaking. One hopes for the further "networked" evolution of Magellan and KOrganizer, and StarOffice might be a good candidate now that it is open sourced (for those who will say SO is bloated, it is, but groupware, with all the features business requires of it, may be doomed to be bloated anyway). -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
