Two questions please ...
1. Is it possible/advisable to download a 9.3 update to install over 9.1 Pro installed from DVD?
2. Will doing so give me an opportunity to update my installed apps especially Apache2?
I've been running 9.1 Pro installed from DVD for some time and I'm having a niggling Apache and mod_python problem. I have never successfully mastered compiling from source and being a user more than a compiler person I'd rather not get into that. Maybe I'm just not brave/smart enough.
There's two schools of thought regarding upgrading, 1) don't, do a fresh install, you will have far fewer problems, and 2) go ahead and upgrade, but be prepared for issues. I upgraded from 9.1 to 9.2 and from 9.2 to 9.3 and had issues both times. They were solvable but some were subtle. I personally don't think I would try an upgrade from 9.1 to 9.3, too many differences. As for compiling from source, you won't have to do that either way, upgrade or fresh install, and you won't have any problem installing Apache2 and mod_python, both packages are available for install.
