The only thing that is really hard for me to understand is that you seem to deliberately ignore parts of this thread and thus fail to make a valid point.
Not at all. My point is perfectly valid. Your response was not exactly what I'd call helpful. You are right, his response wasn't the best after that, but you continue on. That's your choice. But when you continue to deny that your response of "To be honest, if you cannot handle package conflicts and don't have a clue about the repos, you should stick to whatever comes on the DVD and save you the trouble you will almost certainly run into." was uncalled for. And this was after you had tried to be helpful. That's the reason I made the response I did. Maybe instead of that remark, you should have given up and not replied. I try to help also, but when I realize that my suggestions can't help, or won't help for whatever reason, I just stop.
You are right that I had a choice of either just stopping or warning him that users that cannot handle package conflicts might cause themselves more bad than good when using non-DVD stuff. I'm not sure whether not warning them is the better choice per se ─ judging his reaction it would have been the best if I did not even start trying to help in the first place. That does not mean though that it warning people uncalled-for, quite in contrast, warnings are most useful, especially given the experience with people messing their system due to uninformed actions regarding KDE+Qt packages and repos. I hope I remember his name for the next help request and simply stop before I start helping.
