That's what I did. The modules were compiled as root and after that, if I run vmplayer as root, it works correctly. However, even after the modules have been compiled as root, if I launch it as a regular user it "thinks" the modules are not compiled. Then it asks for the root password, doesn't compile anything (because it's already done) and fails with the above mentioned message.
