Its a P4 Mobile 1.7 GHz. So it may be too old for what I'm trying to do.
OS 11.2 Net Install is actually chugging along now (very slowly), so I have the basics working.
I bumped the 11.1 net and KDE live CD to 736 MB, and they still appear to freeze on the black screen.
11.1 is my real goal. I may just have to use a better machine.
Ouch. VBox will work on that machine... but work and usable may be two different things. On RAM. VBox states the minimum RAM required on the Host is 512MB. Anything less than 2Mb is going to be trouble - as in performance trouble. Either you're not going to have enough virtual RAM for your guest to operate smoothly, or your Linux host is going to be swapping... a lot. On CPU. You can run it on a P4 Mobile 1.7GHz CPU, but again, significant performance hits to do pretty much anything. I have run a guest on an 1.6 GHz Atom CPU... but it was painfully slow. Another thought.... have you considered running the PUEL version (plus the USB extension) from the VBox website instead of the OSE from the openSUSE repos? Consistently - at least for me - I've had issues with the OSE version that were not present in the PUEL version.
