Once cups is installed, all you have to do to install a printer is:- 1) Using your favourite web browser type in the following location localhost:631/admin
Well, leaving the :631 issue for a moment. Went to the Printing HowTo. The author says, PDQ, my boy. So, installed it. YaST2 lists lp parallel printer, as default printer. Yet, when I type the command, lpr env.pl, this: tompoe@aether:~ > pdq env.pl Error. No printer specified, and no default printer defined. tompoe@aether:~ > lpr env.pl bash: lpr: command not found tompoe@aether:~ > su Password: root@aether:/home/tompoe > lpr env.pl bash: lpr: command not found root@aether:/home/tompoe > Now, with YaST2, the test for parallel port hits the HPlj5P just fine. The test page for printing fails, though. If I could just merge the 2 damn tests, I should be home free. <grin> I really need to troubleshoot this thing, and wish someone could id the file that defines the default printer for me. /etc/printcap /etc/printcap: lp-ascii|lp1|y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp|y2prn_lp.upp ascii:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp/acct:\ :if=/var/lib/apsfilter/bin/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp:\ :la@:mx#0:\ :tr=:cl:sh: /usr/sbin has lpd. /usr/sbin is not in my $PATH. Is that significant? Any ideas? Thanks, Tom
