I am new to suse. Is there any significant difference between rpms built specifically for suse and those built for others, e.g. redhat?
Yes, but in the majority of cases RPMs are useable on various systems, for exemple a Mandrake RPM could be installed on RH and SuSE and well as Mandrake. Have a look at rpmfind.net
A good thing to do before installing such a package is issuing: % rpm -qpl filename.rpm Then you get a list of the files, and you can check whether or not it is completely wrong. -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A.
