I agree that sylpheed is about the best of breed on mail clients but found
with
great disappointment that imap is not yet fully supported. For example, I
have
been unable to successfully move messages beween pop and imap account
folders.
Since they indicate that the full rollout of imap is still a ways off, I am
presuming
that features such as this are not yet implemented....(hope I'm wrong and
just being
an idiot).

I don't do GW or IMAP, so should probably keep quiet. FWIW, however, I am a big fan of Sylpheed (http://sylpheed.good-day.net), and the version just announced seems to have a lot of IMAP stuff. There is also an active and very helpful mailing list.
