Hi, I spent some time last evening working on trying to get k3b to recognize a disc in the disc drive without success. I also tried to use Brassero to burn the disc, but it also has the same problem. Neither program recognizes that there is a disc in the drive.
The disc is recognized by kde. I am using openSuse 12.3 with kde 4.10.2 release 1. The k3b version is 2.0.2-15.44-x86_64. The repository where the k3b version comes from is http://packman.links2linux.de, however I recently changed the packman repository to http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_12.3 But I don't think the change of repository has anything to do with the problem.
I followed through this bug
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=812462
and found that my /etc/pam.d/common-session and /etc/pam.d/common-session-pc files seem to be configured correctly.
I also followed through this thread http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/multimedia/442519 -k3b-doesnt-recognise-disc-drive.html
but didn't find anything useful to resolve the problem.
I will need some help to get this problem fixed.
Thanks.
As last test. If it is possible try to attach an external DVD/CD Burner unit and check if disck is recognized. If recognized most probably your original DVD/CD hardware unit has a physical failure (e.g. broken cables, lens, etc...). In that case change the unit and problem will go.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. There is no problem with the burner hardware, I am presently using PCLinuxOS to check it, and k3b recognizes the disc and is able to burn. It also works in Win7 on this same computer. The problem is solely with openSuse 12.3, and seems to be a software issue. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
