Like others on this list, I too have been having issues with NVidia. I keep getting lockups. These occurs when a screensaver tries to activate and when playing OpenGL games like crack-attack. I want the 3D acceleration active but I feel to keep my system from being hosed, I will have to use the XFree86 driver instead. :( This really gets me upset. I have tried the following, Using NVidia's AGP instead of AGPGART, Ensuring that the BIOS does not change the interrupts on the AGP/PCI bus, and Nothing sharing the video card IRQ.
Is there any other suggestions that I can try before I have to desert this lost cause? I had 0 lockups in SuSE 8.0 and I am using 8.1. The card is a GeForce 2 MX/400.
Well, I also have a GeForce2 and it is working 100% in SuSE8.1. I can play any of the 3D accellerated games, including Windows games in WineX. The first thing I did, was I DID NOT use the drivers supplied by SuSE. I went to nVidia and downloaded their latest driver set (you can get it in RPM if you like). The next thing that helped... I used this little perl script to double-check everything. http://www.linuxgaming.co.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=13 (if the link doesn't work goto http://www.linuxgaming.co.uk - Downloads section, Utilities. It should be the first link) The script checks everything to make sure your nVidia stuff is config'ed. If anything isn't quite right it will let you know what's wrong and tries to give you engouh information to set you in the right direction to repair it. Hope this works for you. C.
