Try switching to console 1 on F1 to see your error messages. It may be a
permissions problem. Does it do that for all users? If not, do a ls -l of
your home dir and see if root owns any files or dirs there. If so, try
chown -R username /home/username/.

Subject: [SLE] Have lost RunWM - help please
I have been a bit over ambitious and now cannot get any window manager to
load.
I can get as far as the X login screen and it appears to load but just
returns
to it. If I then run 'startx' it goes through the same procedure. The last 2
lines when it returns are:-
/root/.xinitrc: usr/X11R6/bin/RunWM: No such file or directory
/root/.xinitrc: exec: /usr/X11R6/bin/RunWM: cannot execute: No such file or
directory
This all happened after I installed AfterStep and then uninstalled it
because
had taken over the machine. Probably shouldn't have, but that is history.
have tried
export WINDOWMANAGER=/usr/X11R6/bin/startkde
but no effect. Have tried suewm, again nothing.
Can anyone help please, or am I looking at a re install.
Regards,
David
