Hi, How can I copy a DVD-RW to a DVD-R with Linux software? The DVD-RW was recorded by a DVD recorder (Sony RDR-GX210 in my case) from TV or a camcoder so it doesn't use any encryption. Recipes on the Internet mostly refer to Windows software. To copy a DVD-R created by the DVD recorder, the ISO image can be copied: 1) finalize the DVD-R in the DVD recorder 2) dd if=/dev/dvd of=dvd.iso 3) growisofs -speed=4 -Z /dev/dvd=dvd.iso This DVD can be viewed by both the PC (kaffeine, mplayer, ...) and by the DVD recorder. But if I apply the same recipe to a DVD-RW, the resulting DVD-R cannot be played by the DVD recorder. What is it good for? For instance the "ShowView" times include at least several minutes of advertisement before and after a TV program. It's easy to remove those parts on the DVD-RW by the DVD recorder. DVD-R media are more durable and cheaper and thus it would be nice to copy the content of DVD-RW to DVD-R and reuse the DVD-RW for recording. -- A.M.
