I had recently installed the latest alsa stuff, all of it. I followed the readme and used checkinstall. I noticed that I had problems initially because there's a script in the alsa-driver to install the sound device -- ./snd-devices. Once I did this a query of my packages showed the latest was installed (previous queries showed the SuSE default cvs packages). I am having a hell of a time getting some programs to find the sound cards or they report there's no sound device. With the audio/midi players and progs this is not a problem per se - they generate sound (and most others - like games, etc). However, dvd players, read xine, won't use the sound. I have all the libs installed (at least I think so) and liba52 (ac3) is in and recognizes. So, how do I get the /proc/asound stuff to register correctly again. I understand them to be symlinks to /dev/snd stuff? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Curtis.
