cat of proc/asound/seq/clients is not happening?
la /proc/asound/seq/ total 0 dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2003-06-05 23:53 . dr-xr-xr-x 6 root root 0 2003-06-05 23:53 .. -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 2003-06-05 23:53 clients -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 2003-06-05 23:53 drivers -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 2003-06-05 23:53 oss -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 2003-06-05 23:53 queues -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 2003-06-05 23:53 timer Note that all file size = 0. I had recently installed the latest alsa stuff, all of it. I followed the readme and used checkinstall. I noticed that I had problems initially because there's a script in the alsa-driver to install the sound device -- ./snd-devices. Once I did this a query of my packages showed the latest was installed (previous queries showed the SuSE default cvs packages). I am having a hell of a time getting some programs to find the sound cards or they report there's no sound device. With the audio/midi players and progs this is not a problem per se - they generate sound (and most others - like games, etc). However, dvd players, read xine, won't use the sound. I have all the libs installed (at least I think so) and liba52 (ac3) is in and recognizes. So, how do I get the /proc/asound stuff to register correctly again. I understand them to be symlinks to /dev/snd stuff? Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA, Curtis.

Just a heads up: Just 'coz ls -{l|a} show filesizes = 0 in /proc, doesn't mean they're empty per se... ll /proc/version -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 2003-06-06 07:17 /proc/version cat $_ Linux version 2.4.20-4GB-athlon (root@Athlon.suse.de) (gcc version 3.3 20030226 (prerelease) (SuSE Linux)) #1 Mon Mar 17 17:56:47 UTC 2003 in case you didn't know... Sorry, but I can't help with the actual problem ;( Cheers, Jon Clausen -- If we can't be free, at least we can be cheap!
