While they get out of control ocassionally, I think the so-called
'off-topic' postings are an important part of what makes this list a
community.
I've often found that it takes time and effort to create a community, but a
functioning community can be destroyed almost overnight by a casual change
in what is and is not acceptable in the community infrastructure.
Yes, the OT material is a little excessive at the moment, but that's not
surprising - M$ is doing particularly outrageous things. A word from the
list maintainer is usually enought to bring things back on an even keel.
I value the community in this list, in many ways it reminds me of the early
on-line community. I'd hate to see it destroyed by an incautious move...

| You have a point, but if SLE isn't as interesting today, will anyone
care
| in 2004? I mean what is SLE without a Fred's news, a MS debate, and
various
| talk about Linux world dominance? Most of the stuff I've come to enjoy on
SLE
| (and I think a lot of other people too) will no longer be here.
| SuSE shouldn't look at OT posts as a problem on the bottom line, but a
way
| to increase customer loyalty through a great service.
