I looked at the Suse hardware support database but there are so many in there that I dont even know what is considered to be a good scanner.
The xsane page is more up to date. There is a nice table somewhere listing the status of support for every scanner. Print it, or just go to your favourite shop, write down the models you like, and go back to inet and check if they work :-)
I was thinking of a Cannon,
Don't!
A few months ago I would have agree. Canon does not cooperate with the Linux community. But Sane has developed working drivers for a few Canon scanners. The only advantage of a Canon scanner is the size if you want to carry it with a laptop (of course you have digital camera's now). I have Canoscan LiDE30 and it works with Linux (and it is small and costs around 110 Euros). But I still don't like Canon scanners. I prefer my old HP Scanjet 6200C (a little bulky though). -- Alain Barthélemy cassandre@bartydeux.be http://www.bartydeux.be Linux User #315631
