When you do make menuconfig there is a specific option naming K7 for processor type (with linux 2.4.20)
A K7 is an Athlon. You can check which config options were set in the
SuSE default by looking at the file /proc/config.gz
Try this for instance
zcat /proc/config.gz | grep CONFIG_MK7
If you get "CONFIG_MK7=y" then the kernel is already optimized for your
platform.
And yes, I know about zgrep, but for some reason that doesn't always
work on /proc/config.gz, at least not for me.
