Tried installing 9.3 on my old server and due to a flaky DVD drive when the first boot came up it went straight to the kdm login prompt. Since no passwords were set yet I can not login. Can anyone tell me where I need to set/unset something, install something so that the install can finish? I don't consider this the fault of SuSE as the DVD drive is going bad and I ignored many install errors. Thanks,
Can you reboot with the DVD in the drive and repair (and repair, and repair) over and over again until it is complete? Then you could at least try to copy the DVD to your HD and install broken/mis-installed packages from the HD? Or maybe if you have a spare HD you can copy the DVD to it, boot from that HD and install to the HD that you want the system on. Is the DVD drive repairable? I am assuming you have check the power cable, IDE cable, and possible used a DVD cleaner or compressed air. - James W.
