Thanks,
I looked at numerous HP printers listed on Amazon and could not find but 2 that also had an entry listed in Driver Packages. I do not know if the alternate setup for HP printers could associate drivers with some of these printers. Do you know what name they use if not the model number? The model number for one on Amazon that was not included is "HP Color B5L25A#BGJ LaserJet Enterprise M553dn".
Google "list of printers supported by linux"
First hit:
http://www.openprinting.org/printers
from there, all HP printers:
http://www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/HP
The string "M553dn" is not found. Nor B5L25A.
Googling the model, I find an HP shop site that mentions Novell and suse enterprise support. The site is in Spanish, though (I live in Spain, so I get google hits for Spain):
SO móvil (controladores en el OS): iOS, Android, Windows 8/8.1/10 RT Linux OS (In-OS HPLIP): SUSE Linux (12.2, 12.3, 13.1), Fedora (17, 18, 19, 20), Linux Mint (13, 14, 15, 16, 17), Boss (3.0, 5.0), Ubuntu (10.04, 11.10, 12.04, 12.10, 13.04, 13.10, 14.04, 14.10), Debian (6.0.x, 7.x) Otro sistema operativo: UNIX

Probably it is supported by hplip. Most HP printers are (not all).
It is a monster printer not suitable for homes, though.

Thanks for all of your help. I will search details more. I asked Canon for support and received: : "This Linux driver package provided on Canon's website "UFR II/UFRII LT Printer Driver for Linux V3.50 includes code components that were not written by Canon USA or its affiliates. In addition, Linux exists in many different versions, and the driver cannot be tested against all of them. Thus, Canon USA is not able to provide a support program for this driver software." This may be typical, but is depressing for a company this large. I have a canon 5D4 SLR camera that is phenomenal and had expected more from the company. I also had assumed that Canon printers would be best at printing some sort of photos, though I have read that laser printers are not optimum for that. My ink jets get clogged up if I do not use them for a couple of months. Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
