Wonder if the new disk has trouble with older drives or just certian drives.
My older machine didn't have a problem with the dual layer dvd. It has a >5 yr old Memorex DVDROM (rebranded Toshiba DVD) in it. It even booted from it with no problem. I am surprised that so many drives are having problems, since it worked on my old drive. I can't write a dual-layer disk in my new (=5mo) dvd writer, though, so it is a bit of a disappointment not to be able to back it up. :-(
My experience is similar. The DVD drive (TORiSAN DRD-U824 DVD-ROM) on my 4+ year-old laptop has had no problems reading the latest 2-layer DVDs. Interestingly, this same drive has beaucoup problems reading the installation/rescue CD-ROMs that shipped with the system!?! I guess I should consider myself lucky that this drive handles the DVDs OK. Phil -- Philip Amadeo Saeli SuSE Linux 8.2 (Hopefully 9.2 soon! Gave up on 9.0: too slow & buggy.) psaeli@zorodyne.com
