Why is it that when somebody holds a view contrary to another list member they get told that they are a 'newbie' in a derogatory manner? To be a newbie is not a sin, it is not a crime and so - IMHO - should not be used in a derogatory manner as it has been applied to myself earlier in this thread. Now I could well have - and with some right - gone off in a real ranting tirade about this. I have seen this sort of behaviour so often though - calling people silly names - that it now washes over me so I'll keep it civil. Now, as for me being a newbie? Well, I first tried Linux back in about 1997 or 98. It's been so long ago that I cannot truly remember. So, you tell me, am I still a newbie? I don't mind at all just please, do not use the term as if you are swearing. After all, remember that there are million s upon millions of alternative OS users out there who we on this list and other distro's lists would like to try out and eventually move over to using Linux. If the term newbie is seen as a derogatory term then what hope do we have? If my belief about how the reply thing should work is contrary to yours then that does not make it wrong it just makes it different. There is for and against the different ways of making it work and I accept the way it works on this list. -- Take care. Kevan Farmer 34 Hill Street Cheslyn Hay Staffordshire WS6 7HR
