Hi Tom, Firstly I have NEVER had luck installing any printer using Yast2 either with lprold nor cups. To install cups please REINSTALL both cups.rpm and cups-driver.rpm using yast. Also make sure lprold has been removed. This makes sure all the setup Yast2 has done is removed and we start a fresh. Once cups is installed, all you have to do to install a printer is:- 1) Using your favourite web browser type in the following location localhost:631/admin 2) You will be asked for user/password. Log in as root 3) On the web page you will see a button marked Add Printer. 4) Just follow the directions selecting the port and printer. 5) Once you have finished - select the Manage printer and set the defaults for your printer. 6) Again from the Manage Printers Menu ask it to print a test page. You may have to try a couple of different printer drivers to find which driver works best for you. Regards, Graham Smith _______________________________________ On 11-Aug-2001 tom poe wrote:
Hi: I'm in the middle of setting HP laserjet 5P as default printer locally, on SuSE7.1PRO. Cups installed, YAST2 printer add went like this: add printer msg: no dev/lp? found click next, sel dev/lp0 and test msg: no problems [at this point the printer responded and tried to print] next, select HPLJ5P and next drivers selected and test msg: could not print, chk /usr/lib/YaST2/suse_testpg.ps checked and it's there.
When I cli the following comes back:
h:~ > lpr /etc/passwd lpr: error - no default destination available.
check of etc/printcap: lp-ascii|lp1|y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp|y2prn_lp.upp ascii:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp:\ :lf=/var/spool/lpd/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp/log:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp/acct:\ :if=/var/lib/apsfilter/bin/y2prn_lp.upp--ascii-lp:\ :la@:mx#0:\ :tr=:cl:sh:
Do I have 2 probs, one with reading suse_testpg.ps and one with finding the destination available? Or are they the same? Any help appreciated. Thanks, Tom
