IŽm asking for apologies in advance because I know this isnŽt a list to discuss winfault security issues but perhaps someone could help!!!! A long time ago IŽve heard from someone that in windows9x you could add some key into the registry so that users canŽt enter to the system with the Esc key or pressing the "Cancel" button, if this is true or if there is some program to do so, someone could tell me about it? Thanks!!!!
I've been wondering about this for a while... I have actually done this before, so I knew it was possible - but when I came to setting up a new Win98 computer (I had no control over OS :( ) I couldn't remember the correct registry key. A bit of digging turned up: http://discussions.virtualdr.com/Forum2/HTML/005451.html In summary: First they said it couldn't be done (which I knew to be untrue) - but then it turned out that it *was* possible to do this, but only on an NT network (which makes sense, since I, regrettably, have an NT Server box). The relevant registry key (assuming you also have an NT server) is: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Logon] "MustBeValidated"=dword:00000001 Make sure you take the usual precautions before you muck about with the registry. I was just thinking (strange concept, I know...) that to these Windows users, an NT network means 'real network with servers'. Since this registry key only makes sure that the logon *was* actually validated by the server, I don't see why this shouldn't work with a Samba server as well. Enough of my ramblings (and sorry for the OT post, but I thought it might be of interest), Chris -- Apologies to everyone who has been waiting for replies off me over the past few weeks - I've been away from my computer. I'll try to catch up with my email over the coming days, but don't be surprised if you get a reply in a month's time... __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
