I better have to stop here because I'm not complaining about you, as I think you tell me, that I do. Sorry if I do a mistake. And to the commands. I had not the idea to do, cause I didn't knew how to do it to see what is/was wrong.
Could you simply run the commands I sugested,, and copy here the output? Just copy paste the following lines into a terminal, one by one: ls -l /etc/cron.daily/suse.de-updatedb cat /etc/sysconfig/locate | egrep -v "^[[:space:]]*$|^#" cat /etc/sysconfig/cron | egrep -v "^[[:space:]]*$|^#" These three commands do not change anything, they just print the configuration files witout the comments.
Now I have learned, that opensue ml is mostly intended for people with more knowledge than I have. This fact is also a reason, that I maybe not ask as is the intention from time to time. Sorry for having bored you all.
The mail list is for all kinds of users. You simply have to pay a little attention: we can't do things for you, we are not there, we can't know what's the matter with your system unless you telll us what you see. So be patient :-) For instance, I suggest that, if in the output from the above commands you see: SYSLOG_ON_NO_ERROR="no" you edit the file "/etc/sysconfig/cron" and change it to yes. This, if I'm not mistaken, will make cron log its workings like this: Mar 22 01:15:22 nimrodel run-crons[557]: beagle-crawl-system: OK Mar 22 01:15:22 nimrodel su: (to news) root on none Mar 22 01:18:41 nimrodel run-crons[557]: leafnode: OK Mar 22 01:18:42 nimrodel run-crons[557]: logrotate: OK Mar 22 01:18:44 nimrodel run-crons[557]: suse-clean_catman: OK ... so that we can know when and if each individual task is being run. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
